The West Philly Tool Library loans tools to community members so that they might perform simple home maintenance and repair; tend their yards and gardens; build projects; learn new skills; and meet neighbors. We aim to be a community resource to provide home owners and tenants, long-time residents and newcomers with the tools (and the knowledge to work the tools!) they need.
The Library is a fiscally sponsored project of the Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition (GPUAC) and is located at 4620 Woodland Avenue. We are excited to announce that the Library is now open every Saturday morning.
There are over 20 tool libraries throughout the United States from Atlanta to Buffalo, Berkeley to Wichita. In developing the West Philly Tool Library, we have looked to these other libraries to learn what works best, but have adapted to fit our unique West Philly neighborhood.
The Tool Library is funded in part from members ($20/year for general membership or a one-time payment of $200 for a lifetime membership) and in part from community supporters, including Woodland Building Supply, the University of Sciences in Philadelphia, Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell, and more.
Please join as a Library Member today. And we look forward to seeing you down at the Library soon!
